The First and Second Holy Temples in Jerusalem have been destroyed, with the world awaiting the building of the Third Holy Temple (Third Beit HaMikdash).
Why is the world concerned with the building of the Third Holy Temple, and not just the Jewish People?
The answer can be found in the prophecy of Yeshayahu (Isaiah) - when there will be universal peace at the Time of the Redemption, and the building of the Third Holy Temple.

For Jewish People it is a commandment to learn about the Third Holy Temple.

The Third Temple app allows you, in a game motif, to learn the basic structure of the Third Holy Temple in a fun, informative, and exciting manner.

After a brief introduction, the second page of the app shows the general floor plan of the Third Holy Temple. On the third page you move the various structures of the Third Holy Temple into their proper places. When a structure is in its proper place there is applause. In case you do not remember the proper placement, you can hit the Back tap at the upper left corner to take another look at the floor plan. When you have completed placing the structures, press the See the Beis Hamikdash button. The screen will go blank as you hear the sound of the shofar (ram’s horn), followed by thunder and lightning, and the descent of the Third Holy Temple. Although the app is in the form of a game, it nevertheless helps in our understanding of the Third Holy Temple, which hastens its building.

* * *

According to Jewish tradition, the Mashiach is born on Tisha B’Av. According to the Rambam, it is the Mashiach who will lead the Jewish People in the building of the Third Beit HaMikdash, that is never to be destroyed.

Positive Mitzvah 20: Build a Mikdash for G-d

Shemot 25:8: “They shall make a Temple (Mikdash) for Me, and I will [then] dwell in their midst.”

We are commanded to build a Temple for His service. There sacrifices are to be offered and the perpetual fire is to burn, thither the [prescribed] pilgrimages are to be made, and there the festivals and assemblages are to be held every year.

The Sifre says: “The Yisraelim were obliged to fulfill three Mitzvot upon their entry into the Land: to appoint a king over themselves, to build the Temple, and to annihilate the offspring of Amalek“ (Berachot, Tosefta 7:1). Thus it has been made clear to you that the building of the Temple is a distinct Mitzvah in itself.

The provisions of this Mitzvah as a whole, that is to say, those relating to the building of the Sanctuary, its design and its divisions, the building of the Altar, and the related laws, are explained in a Tractate specially devoted to the subject, namely Tractate Middot. In like manner the design of the Menorah (Candlestick), of the Shulchan Aruch (Table), and of the golden Mizbeach (Altar), and their positions in the Temple are explained in the Gemara Menachot and Yoma.

All of the Prophets prophesied concerning the Acharit HaYamim (the End of Days), Yeshayahu perhaps most beautifully:

וְהָיָה בְּאַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים, נָכוֹן יִהְיֶה הַר בֵּית-יְהוָה בְּרֹאשׁ הֶהָרִים, וְנִשָּׂא, מִגְּבָעוֹת; וְנָהֲרוּ אֵלָיו, כָּל-הַגּוֹיִם.

And it shall come to pass in the end of days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

And many peoples shall go and say: ‘Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths.’ For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Let your voice prayers be heard in Jerusalem. For the very first time in history, you can pray in Jerusalem from wherever you are in the world. The app allows the users to record a 45-second prayer, schedule the time of day they would like their pray to be played and then broadcast by Jerusalem.com across Jerusalem’s Old City walls.

Jerusalem has for millennia held a special place in the minds, hearts, and imaginations of people all over the world. For millions of people across the globe, Jerusalem continues to play a special role in their spiritual lives. Some of these people will be able to make the trip to visit the city, and for many others that trip will exist only within. Via the virtual world we can connect between the city of Jerusalem and people all over the world and provide the opportunity to experience Jerusalem in all its many faceted variety. Using modern technology we can establish Jerusalem as a meaningful religious and spiritual destination in the virtual world, and create bridges in the process between faiths, religions, languages and distance in a way that has never been done before.

We can enable people to feel connected to Jerusalem and to support the city’s special place in our world – whether they are across the ocean or half a world away. With jPray your prayers and messages will be heard in the holiest city in the world – Jerusalem.

“This option is for people who want to maintain a spiritual connection with the city but are unable to visit it,” explained Michael Weiss, one of the jerusalem.com administrators. “The idea is to provide a meaningful experience beyond an image of the city. We allow any person in the world to be heard in the city of God.

“Israelis’ accessibility to the holy sites is elementary but is not within the reach of millions of people. Many of them will not be able to come here even once in their lives. Using this technology one can provide people far away with something of the holy city’s DNA,” Weiss said.

He also added that the loudspeaker will be installed in the Yemin Moshe neighborhood and will operate on medium volume.

According to Weiss, after a prayer has been sounded the person who sent the recording will receive a message saying “G0d heard your prayer in Jerusalem.”

Thus far prayers have been received from 72 countries and Weiss said that Jews are “the strongest audience” but that there are many prayers from Christians and Muslims (via ynet.com).

“Angels & Demons, Jewish Magic Through The Ages” – new exibition in Bible Lands Museum and… iPhone app.

Magic permeates daily Jewish lives to such a degree that life without magic is close to impossible.

An interesting fact is that most individuals are unaware that many items in their daily life and many daily actions and beliefs are magical in nature. Examples of this are endless: knocking on wood, tfu tfu tfu, Evil Eye (בלי עין הרע), not naming a child before birth, the amuletic power of the mezuzah, red ribbon bracelet, khamsas, jinxes…

These and many more practices have ancient sources. Some have lost their meaning even though they are still used, for example, the magical formula ABRACADABRA, has its roots in the 3rd century CE, and is continuously used even today.

Belief that the world was filled with supernatural beings and forces such as angels, demons, spirits and the evil eye was common in the ancient world and, indeed, many people today hold to that conviction. These forces were attributed with many powers and were thought to be responsible for many of the good, but especially the bad things occurring to people on a daily basis. It was generally believed that such forces can be coerced into acting on behalf of the applicant. Depending on whether the goal of this coercion was for evil or good, we can distinguish between witchcraft (black magic) and magic (protective magic, or white magic).

Biblical laws strictly forbid the Jewish people from having anything to do with witchcraft (black magic): “You shall not allow a sorceress to live” (Exodus 22:17); “There must not be found among you anyone that… uses divination, a soothsayer, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer” (Deuteronomy 18:10-11).

However, (white) magic i.e. defense against the dark arts, the forces of evil and the damage they cause was not forbidden in Judaism. This is clear both from biblical and rabbinical writings and from many of the preserved amulets, covering various functions, some of which were written by rabbis. The exhibition is designed to show this separation.

Jewish Magic app it’s an interactive exhibition guide combines archaeology, folklore and superstition in an all encompassing display of amulets, khamsas, jewelry, manuscripts, books of spells and other mystifying objects.

This app is your direct channel to the Almighty G-d. With it you can easily and quickly send a prayer to the Western Wall (also known as “The Kotel“ or the “Wailing Wall” ) and it will be placed in between the stones. Your faith or geographical location does not matter – Holy Jerusalem is a few tapping of your fingers away. (תמיכה מלאה בעברית)

The Western Wall in Jerusalem is the last remnant of the Second Temple and as such, it is believed there’s greater Divine presence around the Western Wall than anywhere else on earth. This is why for hundreds of years people have been placing notes with their prayers in the Wall’s crevices, believing that it serves as a direct line to the Almighty God.

Now this centuries-old tradition arrives to your iPhone. @TheKotel for iPhone is based on the popular “Tweet Your Prayers” Twitter service – which brought the Western-Wall to the Twitter age. It is a successful service on Twitter that’s received worldwide recognition and coverage, serving many thousands in the short period of time of its existence.

You can send a prayer in any language supported by your iPhone keyboard.

Visit TweetYourPrayers for plenty of information on this service.

When Matisyahu emerged with his debut album, Shake Off the Dust…Arise, in 2004, his musical persona seemed to some a novelty. Here was a Hasidic Jew, dressed in a black suit with a broad-brimmed black hat worn over a yarmulke, and sporting a full, untrimmed beard, who nevertheless performed toasting raps about the glories of traditional Judaism over reggae beats in a dancehall style directly from Jamaica, punctuating his performances with stage diving. It may have seemed like a joke at first, but Matisyahu was serious, and he began to attract press notices to go with the enthusiastic audiences that packed his concerts.

Matisyahu was born Matthew Miller on June 30, 1979, in West Chester, PA, although his family moved to Berkeley, CA, when he was a child before settling in White Plains, NY. He was given a traditional Jewish upbringing, against which he rebelled at first, considering himself a Deadhead and a hippie by his early teens. But at the age of 14, during a camping trip in Colorado, he reconciled himself to Judaism and soon after visited Israel. After returning to White Plains, he dropped out of high school and traveled the country to attend Phish concerts. Back at home again, he agreed to let his parents send him to a wilderness school in Bend, OR, where he became enamored of reggae and hip-hop, and began rapping at open-mike competitions. He returned to New York at 19 to attend the New School for Social Research in Manhattan, but also joined the Carlebach Shul, a synagogue where his musical interests were encouraged. Meeting a Lubavitch rabbi, he became interested in the strict Lubavitch Hasidic sect of Judaism and renamed himself Matisyahu.

Continuing to perform, Matisyahu assembled a backing band consisting of Aaron Dugan (guitar), Josh Werner (bass), and Jonah David (drums). They recorded Shake Off the Dust…Arise, released by JDub Records in 2004. A concert held in Austin, TX, on February 19, 2005, yielded the follow-up release, Live at Stubb’s, which was released by Or Music on April 19, 2005, then picked up for national distribution by Epic Records, a division of Sony BMG, which reissued it on August 23, 2005, as Matisyahu toured around the country and prepared a second studio album produced by Bill Laswell. The final product, Youth, appeared in March 2006 and was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Reggae Album. A simultaneously released dub version of the album was made available exclusively to mail-order customers. The singer’s backing band named themselves Roots Tonic and released Roots Tonic Meets Bill Laswell in May, and by the end of the year the EP/DVD combo No Place to Be was released. The CD featured a cover version of the Police’s “Message in a Bottle” along with some remixes, while the DVD featured interviews and a concert recorded in Israel (via iTunes).
